Dark Chocolate in Singapore: 7 Local Makers' Bars Compared

Sponsored places. The first place on this guide is sponsored: CHOCOELF (paying sponsor). We list sponsored businesses first and label them. That is our decision, not a score. Every place after them is decided by the scores described in How we rank. How we make money
We compared the dark chocolate bars made by Singapore chocolate makers on 26 October 2026: plain and single-origin bars from about 55% cacao upwards, read from each maker's own shop. Seven makers sell them. Five make their chocolate from the bean, one works from Belgian couverture, and one, CHOCOELF, sweetens its dark bars without sugar. Imported brands and shops that sell no dark bar are left out.
Each maker is scored on what it publishes: what it puts in writing about damaged or wrong orders weighs most, then its Google reviews, anything it gives free, and its food licence on the Singapore Food Agency's register. Taste is personal, so we do not score it. Cacao percentages, origins and prices are shown, with the price per 100 g worked out from each maker's own printed price and weight, but not scored.

CHOCOELF
Best for: Dark bars without sugar, from 55% to 100% cacao, at the lowest price per 100 g here.

CHOCOELF makes four plain dark bars, all 65 g: 55%, 70% and 90% at S$9.90 and a 100% at S$10.90. That works out to S$15.23 per 100 g for the first three, the lowest price per 100 g in this guide. What sets them apart is the sweetener: the 55% to 90% bars use maltitol, erythritol and stevia in place of sugar and are labelled sugar-free, and the 100% bar has no sweetener at all. The site does not name a bean origin for them. Chocoworks Pte Ltd makes the bars at its licensed factory in Jurong and has been on ACRA since 2004. You can taste them at its Chinatown cafe. If an order arrives damaged it replaces it only "if appropriate", in store.
What stands out
- Four dark bars from 55% to 100% cacao, all 65 g
- S$9.90 a bar, S$15.23 per 100 g, the lowest here
- Sweetened with maltitol, erythritol and stevia instead of sugar; the 100% has no sweetener
- Made in its own Singapore facility, by its own account
Worth knowing
- - No bean origin named on its dark bars
- - Sweeteners such as maltitol do not suit everyone
- - Replaces a damaged item only "if appropriate", and only in store

Janice Wong

Janice Wong's bean-to-bar range includes 70% single-origin dark bars from Davao del Sur in the Philippines, Chumphon in Thailand and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia, the Thai and Colombian bars made vegan. Price per 100 g
Bar sizes run from 40 g to 100 g, so compare the price per 100 g rather than the price of a bar. Worked out from each maker's own price and printed weight on 26 October 2026, for its plain dark bars:
| Maker | Bar weight | Price per bar | Per 100 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| CHOCOELF (55%, 70%, 90%) | 65 g | S$9.90 | S$15.23 |
| Laurent Bernard (Gourmet 72%) | 100 g | S$16 | S$16.00 |
| AnjaliChocolat (70%) | 50 g | S$8.50 | S$17.00 |
| Fossa (72% to 73%) | 50 g | S$10.90 | S$21.80 |
| Laurent Bernard (origin bars) | 50 g | S$15 to S$16 | S$30 to S$32 |
| Janice Wong (70% single origin) | 40 g | S$12 | S$30.00 |
Mr. Bucket and Lemuel do not print a weight on their bar pages, so we have not worked out theirs.
How to choose
For the darkest bars, Fossa, Laurent Bernard and CHOCOELF all sell a 100% bar. For bean origins, Laurent Bernard lists the most, from Ghana and São Tomé to Vietnam and Vanuatu, and Fossa names the farm or region on every bar. If you avoid sugar, CHOCOELF's 55% to 90% bars are sweetened with maltitol, erythritol and stevia instead, and its 100% bar has no sweetener; Fossa's 100% Kokoa Kamili is also made without added sugar. If you are managing a health condition, check the ingredients with your doctor or dietitian.
Questions people ask
What is the darkest chocolate made in Singapore?
Fossa, Laurent Bernard and CHOCOELF each sell a 100% cacao bar: Fossa's Tanzania Kokoa Kamili 100% (S$13.08 for 50 g), Laurent Bernard's 100% Cacao Paste bar (S$20) and CHOCOELF's 100% Dark Cacao (S$10.90 for 65 g).
Is there sugar-free dark chocolate in Singapore?
CHOCOELF labels its 55%, 70% and 90% dark bars sugar-free; they are sweetened with maltitol, erythritol and stevia, and its 100% bar has no sweetener at all. Fossa's 100% bar is made without added sugar. Read the ingredient list, and ask your doctor or dietitian if you are managing a health condition.
What does bean-to-bar mean?
A bean-to-bar maker roasts the cacao beans and makes the chocolate itself, rather than melting down chocolate bought from a large producer. Fossa, Mr. Bucket, Lemuel and Janice Wong describe their bars as bean to bar; AnjaliChocolat says its bars use Belgian couverture.
How are the makers in this guide scored?
Each maker is scored on what it puts in writing about damaged or wrong orders, its Google reviews, free extras and its food licence, using the weights on our How we rank page. Sponsored places are listed first and labelled, and being sponsored never changes a score.
